Happy Feet (Blu-ray)
|
| | | "Blu-Ray Disc, Beyond High Definition." Features: DVD, Widescreen, Aspect Ratio 2.40:1, English, French, Spanish, Subtitled In the great nation of Emperor Penguins, deep in Antarctica, you're nobody unless you can sing - which is unfortunate for Mumble (Elijah Wood), who is the worst singer in the world. He is born dancing to his own tune...tap dancing. As fate would have it, his one friend, Gloria (Brittany Murphy), happens to be the best singer around. Mumble and Gloria have a connection from the moment they hatch, but she struggles with his strange "hippity- hoppity" ways. Away from home for the first time, Mumble meets a posse of decidedly un-Emperor-like penguins - the Adelie Amigos. Led by Ramon (Robin Williams), the Adelies instantly embrace Mumble's cool dance moves and invite him to party with them. In Adelie Land, Mumble seeks the counsel of Lovelace the Guru (also voiced by Robin Williams), a crazy-feathered Rockhopper penguin who will answer any of life's questions for the price of a pebble. Together with Lovelace and the Amigos, Mumble sets out across vast landscapes and, after some epic encounters, proves that by being true to yourself, you can make all the difference in the world. "...stupendous...the best dancing you'll see on the screen this year." David Edelstein, New York Magazine "...giddily brilliant entertainment...toe-tapping music." Desson Thomson, Washington Post "In the year of the animated movie, this one soars above them all." Jack Mathews, New York Daily News "...not only the year's best animated movie, it's one of the year's best movies, period." Lou Lumenick, New York Post "...a gorgeously rendered marvel...a smart and surprisingly deep story." Tasha Robinson, The Onion A.V. Club

| Happy Feet - DVD By: David Bezanson - filmcritic.com DVD Reviews Published on: 3/16/2007 8:05 PM | |
So when the 2005 documentary March of the Penguins became a surprise hit and ahem, broke the ice, more penguin movies became a possibility. Luckily, one was already in the works, and even more luckily, Happy Feet is the project of Aussie auteur George Miller (best known for Babe), who does not follow anyones lead. It takes only a few seconds -- the time it takes one of the penguins to sing the first verse of Princes Kiss," while another sings "Heartbreak Hotel" -- for Millers film to qualify as the weirdest movie of the year....read the full review |
| Happy Feet - DVD Review By: Rafe Telsch - Cinema Blend DVD Reviews Published on: 3/27/2007 1:18 AM | | The one thing that helps the movie overcome plot jumps and weak story elements is the rocking soundtrack. Since the story is strongly focused on song and dance, this is one area the film had to excel. I challenge anyone to sit through Happy Feet without tapping their toes or fingers or even getting up to dance around a bit. The rhythms are compelling, the beats hypnotic, and the songs may be familiar oldies, but their arrangements cast them in a new light much the way Moulin Rouge reinvented its songs. ...read the full review |
| Happy Feet - DVD By: NancyGail - Blogcritics.org Reviews Published on: 4/27/2007 12:50 PM | | Mumble and other penguins learn how to dance to their heartsounds. Happy Feet, winner of the Academy Award for Best Animated Film in 2007, contains the voice talents of Elijah Wood in the lead role, and other big name actors such as Robin Williams, Hugh Jackman, Brittany Murphy, and Nicole Kidman. It tells the tale of a penguin who marches to the beat of a different drummer, and never looks back....read the full review |
